Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy

Valerie is a seasoned counselor with more than a decade of private practice experience in Europe, whose work blends depth, authenticity, and cultural awareness with a warm, human presence. Raised in a small town in Connecticut, and shaped by living and working in places as diverse as Boston, London, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, France, and Germany, she has developed a deep appreciation for the many ways people experience and navigate life’s challenges. Valerie honors the full complexity of each person’s story and brings genuine curiosity to understanding who her clients are, where they come from, and what they most need in the moment.

Existential Therapeutic Approach

Her approach is both holistic and existential: she recognizes the connection between mind, body, and spirit and emphasizes what it means to live with authenticity and purpose in the here and now. Inspired by the work of Viktor Frankl, Valerie creates a calm and welcoming therapeutic space where clients can explore what matter most to them, achieve a deeper sense of self-understanding and ultimately find the passion to face life with courage, wisdom, and joy.

She integrates trauma-informed methods, including EMDR, into her work with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions—always with attention to safety, attunement, and collaboration.

Valerie has lived in Europe since 2002, where she shares her life with her Austrian husband and their two daughters.  In 2019, she founded East to West Counseling -- in keeping with her passion for providing culturally sensitive, compassionate care to international clients.
